The Moral Compass Chronicles
The Monday Evening Roast: Why Your Work Doesn't Make You Better Than Anyone Else
The heart of this episode delivers a much-needed reality check to professionals who believe their specialized skills make them more important than others. Particularly focusing on trades and construction workers who often dismiss office jobs, IT work, and creative professions!
Grace and peace. Grace and peace, one and all. This is another rendition of the Moral Compass Chronicles. I'm your man, Eyon Jay man. It's a blessing to be here yet again, man, I tell you my life has been so busy lately, man. I got so much going on and if you know me and if you know me personally, you know some of the things I'm talking about. Man, and I'm blessed, I'm blessed man. The ups man and I'm, I'm blessed, I'm blessed man. The ups, the downs, the ebbs, the flow. Let me tell you something. Ebbs and flows. Rather, let me tell you something about these ups and downs.
Speaker 1:I am figuring out, I am navigating the downs. I am. I find myself, um, because, listen, the ups are going to be there and we know the downs are going to be there too, but how we navigate the downs when they come, a lot of times that's the measure of a man, all right, and so I don't know who needs to hear this, but start to attack those downs. My brother and I was just talking about this earlier. Actually, when you're down, you feel down and you, you know, life is a roller coaster, right, and we're up one day and we're down another day. Whether you know, maybe it's something going on internally, externally, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, financially, whatever it may be, relationship wise. I find that I'm learning how to navigate those down, those downs and those lulls a lot better than I once did, man. So take it day by day. I don't know who this is for, I don't. This is not where I plan to go. This is not what this episode is about, this chronicle. But take it day by day, man, and work on those downs. Work on those downs and how you handle them all. Right now, I have a very interesting little topic here today, and this one's not going to be a very long one. All right, I'm going to do more of these like little shorts as well, because I have a lot of things and I just want to kind of jump on and chop it up with you guys about right.
Speaker 1:So I have a radio show that I love, right? I'm you know I'm a sports guy. Y'all know I love sports, and so I listen to sports talk radio all the time, and one of my favorite shows it's the 6a on espn radio, 6 am to 10 pm, or pause 6 am to 10 am. Um, the dph on rothenberg show great show, great set of guys, man, they do great radio best.
Speaker 1:I've heard here in new york low-key, shout out to the michael k show as well, the old one, um, sorry guys, but um, these guys, they have a segment on their show called and it's typically on fridays they do this. It's called the morning roast, right, the morning roast, and we all know what a roast is, right, we've seen the roasts on tv and stuff where they're roasting some, someone or, and you know, typically it's jokes and stuff, but they're roasting someone or, and you know, typically it's jokes and stuff, but this morning roast, typically, and it's not morning time right now. So I'm going to call this the Monday evening roast. That's what I'm going to refer to this, as it's about 10 PM, 10, 30 PM, eastern standard time. So I'm going to refer to this as the Monday evening roast.
Speaker 1:Now the point of this segment is to roast or discuss, you know, bring up and talk about things that we don't. We just don't like Things that happen in society. You know, air quotes, just the way things are right, that we don't agree with or we don't like. Okay and so, and what I want to do is I want you guys to text me and reply and email me some different things that you just don't like about society, right? Just the way things are and the way people are, right, I want you guys to send me some stuff, and may, hey, guess what, if it's good enough, if it's a, if it's a good talking point, and I think you know we can have some good discussion about it. Hey, maybe you'll hear me talk about your roast here on the air, okay, so let me give you my I and I and I'm going to try to make this quick I want to roast everybody everywhere who specializes in a particular field, or you specialize in a particular industry or particular thing, whatever that may be.
Speaker 1:Okay, those people who are specialists in something, who make everybody else feel like trash, bro, okay, I'm roasting those people. Okay, let me elaborate People who specialize in a particular field or a particular industry, particular area, and anybody else who does not specialize in that thing, right, right, for everyone else who doesn't specialize in that thing that you're great at, they are in a completely different field. You, you find yourself making these people, these other people, everyone else, feel like trash and like they're not working as hard as you are and what they do, you know they don't have to work as hard at what they do as you do at what you specialize in. Okay, I'm roasting all of y'all everywhere, bro. Okay, and I don't want to get too specific.
Speaker 1:But one thing I'll say is I noticed that among construction workers a lot construction workers, contractors and listen, I got work going on on my house right now, me and my wife doing work, getting renovations done. I thank God that my brother-in-law, who's helping us with the work he's not like that, I thank God. You know, he's actually mad, cool and humble about how he the work he does. My friend, who's helping me as well, general contractor, does everything also, he's not like that. These are guys who are humble and know, they're always, they're willing to teach what they know and stuff, bro, but I'm so.
Speaker 1:But I noticed that a lot of among contractors and people who do work on houses, people who work with their hands right, air quotes you work with your hands, right, you, you work with your hands. These are people who feel like nobody else works as hard as they do. I'm roasting all of y'all, bro, I'm roasting, yes, you, I'm roasting you who thinks that you work harder than everybody else because you specialize in whatever it is you do. You feel like you work harder than everybody else. I'm here to tell you you do not, sorry, you don't. I don't know who needs to hear this, but you don't. Yo, I don't know who you need to send this to, right who? You, my friend, who's listening to this? You know somebody. Somebody just came to your mind and you want to send this to them. So please do and listen when you send it to them. Tell them that it's me telling them. It's not you, all right, so you don't want to worry about getting in trouble, it's not you. Tell them, yo, this guy said this, not me. All right, I'm roasting all y'all. Bro, you specialize in something and you just swear that nobody works as hard as you do. I'm sorry to break it to you, but that's not true.
Speaker 1:Okay, what you do is not more important than what everybody else does. Okay, what you do is not better than what anybody else does. Okay, there are people who are extremely unassuming, who are doing more for society than you are. I don't know who needs to hear that, bro. There are people who are like I know you're working with your hands and you know you're messy, hard hat and and and work boots, and you know, cut gloves and all of that. Okay, cool, cool, bro, but my wife is a nurse. Okay, let's keep it 100, bro. My boys work in it and, yes, they may sit behind a computer, but they can do more with a computer than you do with your hands. Okay, just to be clear, and it's them same computers. That's putting certain industries out of work, so let's keep it 100, bro, what you do is not more important than what everybody else does. Okay, and I hate that, because you know I don't build houses, but I have worked with people who do.
Speaker 1:And these guys, I swear, it's like you come into their industry, you come into their field and it's like you know what I'm saying. What I do is just nothing at all. That's not work, right, like these guys who run the radio show that came up with this segment that I'm utilizing right now and I'm giving them credit for it. Right, this segment that I'm utilizing right now and I'm giving them credit for it, right, like these people who work with their hands and you know I don't know what, cut what color collar. That is the, you know, the construction workers and stuff, whatever, whatever color, color collar, that is blue collar, whatever, like they would look at somebody who hosts a radio show, somebody who does a podcast, like me you know somebody who works in it, like my brother does, or or or this bro. They look at us like we are nothing to them, bro, like we don't do anything to them. You know what I'm saying? Man, you're roast, you're getting roasted, you're getting roasted, bro, getting roasted. Like these are the same people who can't. They don't even they. They would need help getting to this podcast, like they would need help figuring out how to download the app to get to this podcast. You know I'm saying that's what we're talking about.
Speaker 1:I'm sorry, bro, what you do is not more important than everybody else. What you do is not better than what anybody else does. It's not more beneficial to society than every other industry. I'm sorry to break it to you. You're not that important, because if what you do makes you feel like you're more important than everybody else, I'm sorry to break it to you, but what you do is not that important. Sorry, and that's my morning roast, and on the radio show, I wouldn't have this much time to explain, you know so. So that's my, that's my Monday evening roast for you right there. Okay, that's it. That's all I got. That's all I got Shorter, shorter episode than usual.
Speaker 1:That's all I got. You know, I want to leave this open for discussion and I want you guys to reach out to me. When you hear this, bro, you tell me something that you hate about society, that you hate what people do, yo bring it to me and, like I said, if it's a good talking point, you know, and it's something that I can discuss, I'll get on here and I'll have some hosting here soon with me and co-host rather, and we'll discuss some of these things. All right, man, I love you guys. I appreciate you, man. Until next time. This is the moral compass chronicles, man. God bless each and everyone and we'll talk, man.
